UN condemns killing of 41 activists in Colombia

Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights spoke Monday about the risk to defenders of these guarantees in many places world and referred in particular to the case of Colombia, where they have reported dozens of murders so far in 2017.

The representative warned that if the trend continues the killing of human rights defenders "could undermine the enormous efforts put into this peace process , " so he urged everyone in Colombia to "remain vigilant".
Also Zeid spoke about violence against those activists in Honduras, especially in rural areas as well as in Brazil, where increased attacks on those people and said the government must do more to combat impunity in cases of violent crimes against those who defend human rights.
In this regard, he spoke the nine members of the Landless Movement in Brazil 's state of Mato Graso,
but the authorities have spoken about it and said that there were reports of 61 rights advocates on the dead in Para state land in 2016. Journalists are also threatened
The High Commissioner also spoke about the difficulties to be addressed journalists to practice and mentioned the case of Mexico, where 124 journalists have been killed since 2000, according to the National Human Rights Commission.
"Five of them were killed in recent weeks. In addition, since 2006, 31 human rights defenders have been killed there, two of them this year , "he said.
Zeid called on governments to combat impunity and to prosecute fairly crimes and abuses against journalists and activists in Latin America so that they can carry out their work in a safe and free environment for the benefit of society as a whole.
