Continental Diagonal, that strip of land that runs unproductive Portugal, Spain and France

A few days ago I mentioned about the economic area  Banana Dorada , because, as our friend alerted me Jo, there is a  Continental Diagonal passing through Portugal, Spain and France and is distinguished not occur walks ... A "antiárea" economic arguably and whose main common features are: 
-a low population density, 
-a weight of important primary sector (compared to the average of their respective countries), 
weak -a industrialization. 
-a communications network that has been traditionally insufficient relative isolation (not in the case of Spain precisely because that area is cluttered and free high - speed railcars).


Also it defined as opposed to the more dynamic, densely populated and wealthy areas of the European Union that surround it: Banana Blue Banana Dorada or Mediterranean Basin, the Rhone Valley and also to a lesser extent the Atlantic arc.

France: Champagne-Ardenne, Burgundy, Auvergne, Limousin, Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine. 
Spain: Aragon, Castilla y Leon -plateau matorrales- Castilla-la Mancha and Extremadura. 
Portugal: North, Center and Alentejo.

Note that Madrid is an anomaly, an aberration ...

Part of this strip of territory belonging to France is known in this country as the  Diagonal of Emptiness  (in French,  Diagonale du vide ). This extends from the department of Meuse the Landes.
