As a person ages, the functions of skin cells decrease, which leads to the formation of wrinkles. To avoid this, researchers at the University of Kyung Hee suggest the use of the medicinal formula based on herbs Korean Seungma-Galgeun-Tang (SMGGT). Their study, published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine , an anti - wrinkle potential determined based on the ability of SMGGT to reduce the production of metalloproteinase-1 of the matrix and increase procollagen type 1.
- SMGGT is a combination of the following herbs: Cimicifugae Rhizoma , Puerariae Radix , Paeoniae Radix and Glycyrrhizae Radix .
- This traditional formulation was used to treat smallpox, measles and urticaria. Furthermore, SMGGT has also shown anti - inflammatory and antiallergic effects, and inhibitory effects on the cytopathic activity.
- The wrinkling is caused by reduced production of type I collagen, as well as an increase in production of matrix metalloproteinase. Exposure to UV can also increase the likelihood of wrinkling.
- For this study, the components found in SMGGT and their potential cytotoxicity were determined.
- All tests for wrinkleproofing potential and SMGGT cytotoxicity were performed in human dermal fibroblasts.
