UN condemns killing of 41 activists in Colombia

American Democracy: A Dead Man Walking

Trump’s “sell-out,” as it is called, coming on top of Obama’s eight-year “sell-out,” is instructive. We have now had a Democratic president who sold out the people who elected him and a Republican president who has done the same thing. This is a very interesting point, the meaning of which most people miss.

But not Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin. At the Valdai discussion club, Putin summed up Western democracy:

In the West, voters cannot change policies through elections, because the ruling elites control whoever is elected. Elections give the appearance of democracy, but voting does not change the policies that favor war and the elites. Therefore, the will of the people is impotent.

People are experiencing that they and their votes have no influence on the conduct of affairs of the country. This makes them afraid, frusrated, and angry, a combination of emotions that is dangerous to the ruling elite, who in response organize the powers of the state against the people, while urging them with propaganda to support more wars.

Obama promised to get out of Afghanistan or Iraq or perhaps it was both. He promised to reverse the police state created by the George W. Bush regime. He promised to focus American resources on American domestic problems, such as health care.

But what did he do? He expanded the wars and launched new ones, destroyed Libya and attempted to destroy Syria, but was stopped by British non-participation and Russian objection. Obama overthrew democratic governments in Honduras and Ukraine. He expanded the police state. He began the demonization of Russia and Putin. He betrayed the American people again by allowing the private insurance industry to write his health care plan known as Obamacare. The private interests wrote a plan that diverts public monies from health care to their profits.

All of this is forgotten when the ruling elites and the presstitutes that serve only them refocused the demonization on Trump. Suddenly, it was the president-elect of the United States who was the main danger to the US and the American people. Trump was a Russian agent. He had conspired with Putin to steal the US election from Hillary Clinton and make the White House a partner of Putin’s alleged reconsruction of the Soviet Empire.

The nonsense was hot and furious, and it was effective. Trump succumbed to pressure and sacrificed his National Secuity Advisior, who was supportive of Trump’s promise to normalize relations with Russia. Trump replaced him with a Russophobic idiot who apparantly cannot wait to see mushroom clouds over cities all over the Western world.

Why did two presidents in succession completely sell out the people who voted for them?

The answer is that presidents are not as powerful as the interest groups who make the decisions.

Trump was going to get us out of Syria, so he committed an unambigious war crime by gratuitously attacking Syria with Tomahawk missiles.

Trump was going to normalize relations with Russia, so his Secretary of State announces that US economic sanctions will stay on Russia until Russia hands over to Ukraine the Russian Crimean naval base on the Black Sea.

It is impossible to normalize relations when the cost to the other party of the normalization is national suicide.

Despite Trump’s complete surrender to the powers that be, today (May 2) on NPR I heard raw propaganda dressed up as “expert opinion” that Trump is biased against the media, when what all of us have seen is massive media bias against Trump, including the program to which I was listening.

For example, NPR had accumulated “experts” who said that Trump had slandered Obama by accusing him of intercepting his comunications. NPR said nothing about the Obama regime’s charge that Trump conspired with Putin to steal the election from Hillary Clinton.

If anything was slander, this was, but all the talk was about how Obama could sue Trump.

But, of course, both are public figures, and neither can sue the other.

I wonder why NPR’s “expert” didn’t get around to this point.

Why is the ruling oligarchy still using its presstitutes to campaign against a president who has surrendered to them?

Perhaps the answer is that the real powers that be are going to make an example out of Trump so that never again does a person running for elected office make a populist appeal to the electorate.

Blair, quien mantiene una firme oposición al Brexit, anunció además que la lucha contra esa decisión lo motiva para regresar al ruedo de la alta política en su país pues, según expresó, “hay que mojarse y lo haré”, aunque desestimó postularse para un asiento en el Parlamento.
El ex líder del Partido Laborista, principal fuerza opositora en Reino Unido, manifestó que “voy a tener una parte activa en intentar modelar el debate político” contra las posiciones del gobernante Partido Conservador y la actual primera ministra Theresa May.
El ex mandatario, quien se mantuvo al frente del país durante una década a partir 1997, perdió popularidad por el mayoritario rechazo de los británicos a su postura a favor de la invasión a Iraq y el involucramiento de tropas británicas en la coalición para la guerra contra el país árabe liderada por Estados Unidos.
En octubre de 2015, Blair pidió disculpas por su papel en ese conflicto y alegó que tomo sus decisiones sobre la base de información de inteligencia errónea.

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos se pronunció este lunes acerca del riesgo que corren los defensores de esas garantías en muchos lugares del mundo y se refirió en particular al caso de Colombia, donde se han reportado decenas de asesinatos en lo que va de 2017.
Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein a través de una conferencia de prensa en Ginebra afirmó que los activistas, al igual que los periodistas y otros representantes de la sociedad civil, enfrentan grandes peligros en el desempeño de su labor.
“Hemos recibido información de al menos 41 casos de defensores de derechos humanos asesinados en Colombia en apenas cuatro meses de 2017.
Esto representa un aumento con respecto al mismo periodo de años anteriores y es muy alarmante”, apuntó.
El representante advirtió que de continuar la tendencia al asesinato de defensores de los derecho humanos "podría perjudicar los enormes esfuerzos puestos en este proceso de paz", por lo que instó a todos en Colombia a "mantenerse vigilantes".
Asimismo, Zeid habló sobre la violencia contra esos activistas en Honduras, especialmente en las áreas rurales, así como en Brasil, donde ha aumentado los ataques contra esas personas y señaló que el gobierno debe hacer más para combatir la impunidad en los casos de delitos violentos contra quienes defienden los derechos humanos.
En este sentido, habló los nueve integrantes del movimiento Sin Tierra en el estado brasileño de Mato Graso, sin que las autoridades se hayan pronunciado al respecto, y afirmó que hubo reportes de 61 defensores de los derechos sobre la tierra muertos en el estado de Pará en 2016.
Periodistas también peligran
El Alto Comisionado habló también acerca de las dificultades que deben abordar los periodistas para ejercer su profesión y mencionó el caso de México, donde 124 comunicadores han sido asesinados desde el año 2000, según datos de la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos.
“Cinco de ellos fueron muertos en las últimas semanas. Además, desde 2006, 31 defensores de derechos humanos han sido abatidos, dos de ellos este año”, recalcó.
Zeid hizo un llamado a los gobiernos a combatir la impunidad y a enjuiciar de manera justa los crímenes y abusos contra periodistas y activistas en América Latina para que puedan realizar su labor en un entorno seguro y libre, en beneficio de la sociedad en su conjunto.

Almagro es declarado persona non grata en Uruguay

La Federación de Estudiantes Universitarios de Uruguay (FEUU) declaró como persona non grata a Almagro por su posición injerencista contra Venezuela

Las posturas abiertamente neoliberales y ultraderechistas de la OEA y sobre todo su secretario general Luis Almagro, están haciendo que los pueblos latinoamericanos comiencen a levantarse nuevamente.

La Federación de Estudiantes Universitarios de Uruguay (FEUU) alzó su voz en protesta a las posturas de varios gobiernos latinoamericanos, incluido el uruguayo, apoyando la injerencia promovida desde la OEA contra Venezuela.

Esta organización de jóvenes uruguayos declaró como persona no grata al secretario general de la Organizaciones de Estados Americanos (OEA), Luis Almagro, a través de un comunicado, donde expresan que la OEA “desestabiliza” en el continente y etiquetan a Luis Almagro como el “más notorio cipayo de los últimos tiempos. (…) 

Busca restituir a dicho organismo como el ministerio de colonias, siendo fiel a la concepción que le dio origen”.

La FEUU manifiestó su “absoluto respaldo” al pueblo venezolano, es su “derecho a resolver sus diferencias, por los canales y espacios institucionales legítimos”.

Desde la OEA, el secretario general, Luis Almagro, a convertido este organismo en un centro de campaña antidemocrático contra nuestro país, haciéndose la vista gorda de casos realmente importantes, como los actos de desobediencia civil en Paraguay, la situación social en Argentina y el gobierno de facto en Brasil, por nombrar algunos casos.

Lo califican como el peor de los cipayos que ha parido el Continente....

Llama poderosamente la atención que Aporrea haya guardado el mayor de los silencios frente a ese comunicado de los estudiantes del Uruguay, claro (aclaramos) exageramos cuando decimos que manifestamos sorpresa por ello, pero NO, en absoluto eso nos sorprende, en absoluto...!!!, ese silencio lo que demuestra es que esa página ya trabaja para la derecha y lo hace ya de frente, sin tapar nada...!!!

Qué vergüenza...! y allí están acompañando a ese silencio un pequeño grupo de, dizque revolucionarios, que estuvieron al lado del Comandante como sus asesores inmediatos y de la mayor confianza, pues fueron sus ministro:  Anaelisa Osorio, Navarro, etcétera, etcétera....
