Moscow: East Jerusalem must be the capital of Palestine and West of Israel

Israeli authorities have not yet reacted to statements by Russian Foreign Minister Serguéi Lavrov, who two months ago reported that West considers Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli state and confirmed that recognizes the status of East Jerusalem by Israel since -controlled June 7, 1967 as the "capital of the future Palestinian state."

"This has baffled our authorities. What happened? 

Russia recognizes Palestine as a state, and also takes into consideration Israel. That is, it puts both on the same level. 

This does not match the current policy of the Hebrew nation. Israel has not recognized Palestine as a state, and there are many in the Hebrew Government who believe that there should be a Palestinian state, "continued Kedmi.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that still "studying" the statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The office of prime minister Benjamín Netanyahu has refused to turn to comment on this particular point.

"Accepting or react positively mean that the current government confirms that there are West Jerusalem and East. While in fact the official position of the country is based on the territorial integrity of the city and Israel's sovereignty over it," he said Yakov Kedmi.
