How did you come to Syria?
After completing my studies in philosophy and theology at age 23 I was assigned to the Middle East.First I was in Bethlehem, Palestine, where I learned classical Arabic. Then I was 12 years in Egypt where I became regional superior, this allowed me to learn about different countries where I lived many different situations. Towards the end of 2010, after transiting moments of great pressure and intensity I requested some time off in the city of Aleppo in Syria that is where we have our community.
Why did you choose Syria?
What caught my attention in that country, especially the city of Aleppo, it was the peace, stability and conviviality that had, plus it is a totally westernized society unlike all the other countries where I was, that's why I came to Syria in January 2011, months before the war begins.
How did you live the development of the conflict?
Were moments of great tension since the development of the conflict was extremely surprising because from one moment to another began to appear foreign armed groups, speak other dialects that were not there and suddenly took the city.
How the social-political life unfolded before?
Previously they had peaceful demonstrations by minority groups who disagreed with the government. After the arrival of the terrorists were completely diluted and lost in these groups, ie when the media speak of civil war misrepresents all because there never was civil war in Syria, but an invasion of terrorist groups quickly blocked the city, the desabastecieron and generated violence as never before had seen.
The media suggest that it is a religious war is this true?
Part of the game is to show partially and misrepresenting information that actually simplifies everything. For example we speak of the self-styled Islamic State and religious persecution but this is one aspect and not even the most important in the sense that these terrorist groups, Islamic fundamentalists certainly are being supported from outside by major countries of the community international. As well as the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia did not agree with the good coexistence in Syria, and other economically important countries like Qatar also support these armed groups and they do it because at the bottom of all this there are vested interests on the area and ultimately use these groups as an excuse.
How many armed groups currently exist in the Syrian conflict?
There are plenty of armed groups and is almost impossible to count them because besides separate, they begin to dispute territory then it becomes very difficult to know how many groups are operating there. Obviously the best-known groups are Al Qaeda and Islamic State, but there are many others, all with the fundamentalist line that actually is totally opposed to the way of life carrying Syrian Muslims.
Who are the rebels?
The rebels or the moderate opposition as such do not exist because the only groups that there are fundamentalists, and no other, that is no more moderate groups like trying to install but these rebels are mixed with terrorists and carry out atrocities as decapitating a 12 years because they blamed the Syrian army take information. That's the moderate opposition, of course, has nothing to do with the Syrian people.
The United States says the solution is to overthrow President Bashar Al Assad, the Syrian people what you think in relation to that?
The balance that the Syrian government had achieved was elusive and they are aware of the shortcomings of the government, much of the Syrian people think that they should keep the president out because there would be chaos. That is, it would be given free rein to terrorists because they know that if they overthrow Assad will not come democracy but fundamentalists take power and that would be a fatality.
What is the role played by the Syrian army and its allies?
The only defense of the people in all this time was the Syrian national army and especially in the last year Russian support was also of great help to free cities such as Aleppo was last December.
They are also fighting the Kurdish peshmerga and Iran why do you think that support Syria?
Possibly because one of the main objectives when raising this war was to divide Syria, which would generate a weakened country and this also means weaken Iran, then in this sense has played a little boost different groups, ie it is encouraging division.
Last week held meetings in Astana, what do you think about these meetings?
Honestly after many meetings that have taken place over the years and has not accomplished anything, I think the solution is economic and is centered on stop buying oil and sell weapons to terrorist groups. Instead of meetings, agreements and interventions that are unilateral and are ineffective thing to do is stop supporting rebel groups was what he said during his campaign Tump and secondly, we must stop this in a smart way respecting the country's sovereignty. You can not enter a country trampling everything to "curb" terrorism theoretically completely outside the government, without the agreement of the national army.So in all these years,
Trump last month made a unilateral bombing of a Syrian base, does that benefited the terrorists and what role the mass media there?
Of course the bombing benefited terrorist groups and war propaganda so does, in fact, the bombing was carried out according to the foundation of the United States because there was a chemical attack, which I really doubt has occurred because actually what transpired were videos and is absolutely unacceptable that international decisions on videos that can be safely mounted as demonstrated in other conflicts are taken. Moreover, non-governmental organizations that are in the area support these groups and it is unfortunate because often the aid should go to the Syrian people end up in the hands of these groups.
The Syrian conflict was six years old and has left more than 465,000 dead and missing besides violence and insecurity that triggered caused the largest exodus of refugees since the end of World War.
