The founder of Canadian pharmaceutical Apotex, Barry Sherman , and his wife, Honey Sherman , died today in Toronto in circumstances that authorities have described as "suspicious". The bodies were found in the basement of his home, which was for sale.
A spokesman for the Toronto Police agent David Hopkinson told a press conference that " the circumstances of their deaths seem suspicious and are trying in this way".
Hopkinson did not provide the identity of the two deceased, who were found today at the home of Sherman marriage, but Apotex later confirmed that the two killed are the company founder and his wife .
The company said in a statement that "everyone in Apotex are deeply shocked and saddened by this news and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family."
Police also indicated that a forced entry into the home is not appreciated and that no suspects in search.
Sherman has died at age 75. The businessman, who has been usual in the Forbes list of the richest in the world for more than 15 years, founded Apotex in 1974 with only two employees. At present, the company is the largest Canadian pharmaceutical manufacturer and produces about 300 generic drugs in more than 115 countries . The Barry Sherman was considered one of the largest fortunes in the country , with an estimated value of 4,800 million Canadian dollars (about 3,200 million euros).
Both Barry Sherman and Apotex had been involved in recent years in several lawsuits with family and other pharmaceutical. In 2013 the company was the protagonist of a scandal by defective contraceptive pill, which was actually a placebo. At least 60 women were affected, of which 40 became pregnant.
The couple, who had four children, was also one of the greatest philanthropists in the country with large donations to hospitals and Jewish groups.
