Spain error

"If Spain had kept the peseta their industry would be stronger" Friday, February 26, 2016 Paul Krugman, Nobel laureate and professor of economics at Princeton University, he believes that if Spain had not entered the euro industry had held up better during the crisis. Furthermore, the Nobel has also denied it has advised the Government of Greece after the victory of Syriza in the Greek country. in an interview with Business Insider, ask Krugman how could Spain, Greece and Portugal improve exports : "Spain takes time seeing improvements in exports, after a long period of high unemployment wages have remained low." This has allowed the goods and services produced in Spain more competitive. Krugman argues that "Spain is acting as a sort of center of manufacturing in Europe, Spain is starting to feel the recovery. However, Portugal is a little further to achieve this stage ". on the other hand, Krugman believes that if Spain had not entered the euro the way it would have been simpler:" Suppose that Spain would never have joined the euro and therefore there had been a sharp depreciation of the peseta. probably the Spanish industry had grown significantly. the idea that you can not do anything is wrong. with the correct prices many things can happen , "says the noted economist. the case of Greece Krugman believes that tourism it may be the best 'industry' for Greece: "We tend to not take seriously tourism, but can bring large amounts of money I always like to emphasize that the Greek economy is about the same size of the metropolitan area of Miami.. Why can not Greece an economy that tourism alive? ". " Hotel chains and other investments can be installed in Greece ... These economies are not hopeless, there are many possibilities to do things if they get credit using a monetary policy that works , "says the US economist. Finally, to end Greece, Krugman says," he has never worked as an advisor to Greece. I've talked to people and that sort of thing. Varoufakis I met a few months ago, but after he was no longer in the government. I can talk to people, but that does not mean it is performing a kind of formal work. "

Euro a lapse of banking?

Paul Krugman, professor of economics at Princeton University and Nobel laureate, believes that countries that preferred to keep their own currency instead of adopting the euro are enjoying economic advantages: "One of the great lessons of the euro crisis is that Milton Friedman was right "when explaining the importance of exchange rates in Europe, says Krugman.
the Princeton professor says in his blog on the New York Times that" many economists remain deeply convinced that the euro has not affected when facing the crisis ...
the large wage and price adjustments in the euro countries, have been much easier in countries that have faced depreciations of their currencies (deflation relative) ". Milton Friedman was right, the exchange rate plays a key to correct imbalances between countries without excessive suffering paper.
A case exemplified some economists to justify that the euro has not been a hindrance is the 'miracle' of Ireland.
The economist Thordvaldur Gylfason compares the crisis of the 'Celtic Tiger' with Iceland, arguing that although Reykjavik maintained its national currency, both countries have recovered their levels of income per pre-crisis almost on par capita.
Differences between Ireland and Iceland
However, Krugman points out that everything is not income per capita. If the labor market data are observed, it can be seen as the employment rate in Iceland has recovered and surpassed pre-crisis levels, but Ireland is still well below the levels of 2007. The employment rate is the ratio between the employed and the population of 16 years to 64 years to make the calculation with the methodology used by Eurostat.
This data suggests that although Ireland's GDP is growing strongly, the labor market still has not regained health he enjoyed in 2007, when the employment rate was 70%, while 63.1% now. In Iceland , the employment rate is today 85%, while in 2007 it was also 85%.
"I guess and understand the urgency justify the creation of the single currency. But the evidence suggests that there are significant economic benefits for countries that decided to maintain its own currency ", says Paul Krugman.

EU "threat" that 'filtered and denounce illegal activities'

Xnet warns of the "threats" to the 'leakers' with the new legal doctrine on Trade Secrets approved by EU

  • THEY NOTE THAT WITH THIS NEW LAW THE "LEGAL PERSECUTION" OF CITIZENS WHO "DENOUNCE IMPROPER BEHAVIOR, CORPORATE IRREGULARITIES OR ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES" ENSURES
  • IN THE VOTE HELD IN THE COMMITTEE ON LEGAL AFFAIRS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION ONLY THE GROUP OF THE GREENS (WITH COMPROMÍS, EQUO, EH BILDU, BNG, ERC AND ICV) EXPRESSED OPPOSITION

Platform internet activist  Xnet  has launched Tuesday  a campaign  at European level in collaboration with different organizations across the continent to altertar of "the  threats of the new legal doctrine on Trade Secrets "  approved by the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Union European  and "exposes whistleblowers or  whistleblowers , freedom of press and information, workers and consumers, health and the public interest , " according Xnet. Under the opinion of this organization advocates the adoption of the current text of the directive Trade Secrets ( Trade Secrets Directive ) by the European institutions and the further development of this new legal doctrine,  "leads to very serious for citizens uncover abuses of corporations threats" . and this is because, as Xnet points with this new Community legislation "a situation of set asymmetry between citizens and institutions  regarding the protections available to report improper behavior, corporate irregularities or illegal activities."

They believe, therefore, that the  whistleblowers  , as they were in his day  Edward Snowden, Hervé Falciani or Chelsea Manning - are  "unprotected"  although "most of the complaints against corporate abuses are driven by citizens."

Also, note that with this new legal doctrine on Trade Secrets " assumes the legal prosecution of anyone who reveals trade secrets , but ultimately the courts fail in their favor , " the protection of  whistleblowers  becomes an "exception "instead of" being based on a law "and, finally, that" uncertainty facing legal action does  scare the action of people in possession of information indicating improper behavior  or corporate wrongdoing. " in  the vote  held place Tuesday in the Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Union only group Los Verdes , where are the Compromís, EH Bildu, BNG, ERC, ICV and Equo- formations  has expressed opposition .

In contrast, both socialists and conservatives and liberals said yes.  Surprisingly, the group of the European Left , represented in Spain by Podemos, Izquierda Unida and Anova- not opposed  to the adoption of this new legal doctrine.

The Xnet platform believes that corporations are trying to "seize" the current crisis in Europe as an excuse to "justify the preemption of their business interests over the common good"  and "ensure the provilegios and impunity" normally "unacceptable within the democratic rule of law. "
The activist group comes even consider that this new doctrine provides "super powers" to large companies, such as the "legal tools to protect their investments and hide abuses and malpractices". Thus, Xnet adds that  it is prevailing to commercial "above any other criteria" . Principles that would underpin also the last major actions of the EU and the signing of  the free trade agreements  TTIP, TISA or CETA.

Agreements that, "under the guise of trade," according to the platform, "is trying to pass a closed and out of the democratically elected parliaments door."
