MOSCOW, TASS/. No representatives of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) visited Syria’s Khan Shaykhun where an alleged chemical attack took place, so the origin of samples the OPCW claims to have is unclear, said Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov.

OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumcu said earlier that sarin gas or a sarin-like substance had been used in the chemical weapons attack in Khan Shaykhun. He added that “the analytical results already obtained are incontrovertible.”

According to Konashenkov, “in the past two weeks, not a single OPCW representative was seen there.” “Where do these samples come from? Who of the OPCW members was able to study them so fast while standard procedures stipulate a complex research which requires time, as we can see in the case of mustard gas use in Aleppo,” Konashenkov said.

White Helmets unharmed

The Russian Defense Ministry wants the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to explain how members of the White Helmets (an organization positioning itself as a human rights campaigner – TASS) managed to stay unharmed by sarin in Khan Shaykhun, Defense Ministry spokesman said.

“If it is true that sarin was used in Khan Shaykhun, how can the OPCW then account for the fact the charlatans from the White Helmets organization were hustling and bustling inside sarin clouds with no protective gear on? Everybody could see that. Ahmed Uzumcu should provide comprehensible answers to these questions as soon as possible,” Konashenkov said.

“Although independent experts do not believe that anyone could have remained unharmed in a sarin gas attack, nevertheless, maybe Mr. Uzumcu has created his own periodic table of elements instead of Mendeleev’s one?” Konashenkov added.

OPCW’s responsibility

The Russian defense ministry spokesman pointed out that the OPCW had been founded as an impartial and responsible international organization. “This is why the statements and conclusions that this organization makes should be based on scientific methods instead of being politically motivated,” the Russian general said.

“Moreover, any experts should have an opportunity to check these statements and conclusions,” Konashenkov added.

He said that only an impartial investigation on the scene could help figure out what had really happened in Khan Khaykhun as well as “establish those responsible.”

Aleppo mustard gas attack

The Russian defense ministry spokesman went on to say that the OPCW had been unable to provide an opinion on the use of mustard gas in Aleppo for four months while it took the organization very little time to come to a conclusion on the Khan Shaykhun incident.

“Four months later, the OPCW is still unable to deliver an opinion and recognize that the mustard gas found in Aleppo was really mustard gas, citing the need for additional research. However, as for Khan Shaykhun, everything become clear immediately to Mr. Uzumcu,” Konashenkov said.

He pointed out that in late 2016, Russian experts recorded a mustard gas attack carried out by militants in Aleppo. “Russian experts went to the scene and collected samples of the poisonous substance, which were later handed over to the OPCW. At the time, the Syrian authorities insisted the OPCW experts should visit the country and expressed readiness to ensure their security but no one came,” the Russian General noted.

Khan Khaykhun attack

The alleged chemical weapons incident in the town of Khan Shaykhun, the Idlib Governorate, occurred on April 4. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on that day the Syrian air force delivered airstrikes on several militant facilities where munitions filled with poisonous substances were being made. However, Washington came to the conclusion that Damascus had used chemical weapons which led the US to carry out a missile attack on the Syrian military’s Shayrat air base located in the Homs Governorate on April 7, as the US believes that the attack on Khan Shaykhun was launched from there.

More than two thirds of EU countries have chosen to ban GM crops; Monsanto shares have fallen 25%, increasing its losses and has slashed its workforce by 12%.

It extends throughout Europe the ban on GM crops.

Most member countries of the EU (two thirds) have decided to ban the cultivation of genetically modified foods after entry into force of the new legislation passed last spring, which allows each of the Member States could to title Individual restrict the cultivation of GMOs in their territory.

After the deadline of 3 October 2015, the spokesman for the European Commission Enrico Brivio announced that 19 of the 28 EU members have opted for the exclusion clause: Austria, the Walloon region of Belgium (implying more than half of the territory of Belgium); Great Britain (Scotland, Wales and  Ireland  North), Bulgaria , Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany,  Greece , Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland and Slovenia. Germany has a partial exclusion option, but still allows research of transgenic crops without commercial use. In total, these countries account for about 70% of the EU population and more than two -thirds of its farmland.

Serbia and  Russia , which are not EU members, have also shown signs of rejecting this technology. Serbia only allows the marketing of non - GM soy. Switzerland, which is not a member country of the EU, has established a moratorium on GM crops, which is currently in effect.

Other similar exclusion proposals are being considered on imports of genetically modified food and feed for animal feed, but has not yet been finalized.

Security concerns, conflicts of interest, corruption in approval and lack of demand

Scotland was the first to consider the exclusion clause when the Secretary for the Environment, Richard Lochhead, said they intended to take the precautionary principle, which states that when there is reasonable suspicion of damage, lack of full scientific certainty or consensus, should not bedelayed preventive action, adding: "there isno evidence of a significant demand for GM products by Scottish consumers and we areconcerned that by allowing the cultivation of GMOs could damage our clean, green image, putting question the production value of 14,000 million pounds in the food and beverage industry. The  Government Scotsman is concerned about the long -term effects of GM crops,

Germany's concerns expressed in its application, signed by Dr. Robert Kloos, Minister of Food and Agriculture: "The cultivation of genetically modified maize is incompatible with the common use of agricultural land in Germany. Would adversely affect conventional maize cultivation and ecological. Increase the risk of domestic agricultural products, including seeds of conventional and organic corn may be contaminated with ingredients from genetically modified maize ... This demand must also take into account local biodiversity, landscape features and operation of specific ecosystems ... ".

These prohibitions are one of the consequences of the classification of glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans" by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2015 ( Consequences of the classification of glyphosate as probably carcinogenic by the WHO, SiS 67 ). They have intensified around  the world campaign to ban or eliminate gradually the use of this chemical, and have filed lawsuits against Monsanto for false security claims.This will affect sales of the flagship product of Monsanto.

Monsanto shares continue to fall since 2014, but now the situation worsens

Germany spied for years to Interpol and Europol

German intelligence services spied for years to Interpol and the European Police Office (Europol). 

Published Saturday by the German weekly Documents  Der Spiegel revealed that the Federal German Intelligence Service (BND, its acronym in German) Spied also the liaison offices of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in dozens of countries such as Austria, Greece and the United States. 

The BND added email addresses, telephone numbers and fax numbers of police investigators to your watch list, as pointed out by the publication, citing documents obtained.

German espionage agency also monitored to Europol, which is based in The Hague (Netherlands), according to the weekly. 

Konstantin von Notz, a deputy of the Greens as part of the inquiry commission, described the latest information on the activities of the BND intelligence of "scandalous and incomprehensible". 

"We know that parliaments, several companies and even journalists and editors have been targeted and allied countries , " it said the parliamentarian said in a statement, noting that the latest reports show how ineffective it has been hitherto parliamentary control despite new laws designed to reform the BND. That, German deputy added, represents "a danger" for the rule of law in the country. 

So far, neither the German intelligence nor Interpol or Europol have made comments. 

In 2015, Der Spiegel said the BND spying on the US interior ministers, Poland, Austria and Denmark, while the United States also spied on German Chancellor Angela Merkel. 

In October 2013, the German media published a based on documents released by the excontratista of the National Security Agency (NSA, for its acronym in English) Edward Snowden in which revealing report that US intelligence had since 2002 in a list phone bugging Merkel, causing some tensions between Washington and Berlin and within the German government.
